Rainier Beach Presbyterian Church is a classic Mid-Century Modern church designed in 1958 by Robert L. Durham, a well respected church designer from Tacoma, WA. Making the most of glue laminated timber technology that was developed during World War II, the main sanctuary and views out to Lake Washington are framed by curving beams forming a 3 point arch.
Their religious leader, Jane Pauw, sought to update the church sanctuary space, narthex, and offices with a light touch – and on a limited budget. Through careful design work, maximum results were achieved with changes to paint, carpeting, lighting, handicap access ramps at the altar, and other minor modifications.
Project completed while at Richard Hiner Architects.
