Brian D. Rich is a LEED Accredited Historic Preservation Architect and founder of Richaven Architecture & Preservation.

Brian earned his bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame, and completed his master’s degree in Architecture and Certificate in Historic Preservation at the UW. His professional qualifications exceed the Secretary of the Interior’s requirements in 36 CFR 61 as an Historic Architect, Architect, and Architectural Historian, including over 30 years of professional experience in architecture, historic preservation, and construction management. He has completed numerous regular annual specialty training in technical preservation issues, disaster recovery, and architectural issues.

Brian has completed over 193 projects, including 122 renovations of existing buildings and 71 designated or eligible landmarks, garnering multiple personal and project awards. Brian is also a licensed drone pilot with over 300 sorties without incident, providing aerial project documentation and assessment for historic building projects.

Brian serves as the past-president of APT Northwest (after serving as president of the APT Northwest for 13 years and member for 17 years), a lifetime member of APTI, 16-year member of the Washington State Heritage Barn Advisory Committee. Past activities include service as Co-Chair of the APT Seattle 2023 Local Conference Committee, past Chair of the Redmond Landmarks Commission, 9 years on the King County Landmarks Commission as Commission Chair and Design Committee Chair, over 4 years as the FinCap Committee Co-Chair and Board Member at the historic University Heights Community Center, Subject Matter Expert at the 2015 AIA Resilience Summit. Brian is an inaugural member of the UW Alumni Association’s GOLD Council and an inaugural recipient of the UW Husky 100 Award in 2016. Brian is the creator of the Principles of Future-Proofing (www.principlesoffutureproofing.com) which focuses on preserving historic character while balancing the need to adapt old buildings for modern uses.

Anna joined the Richaven team in September 2023 after completing her Masters degree at the University of Washington. With a love of research and and eye for detail, she brings a steadfast curiosity to tackle to the complexities of rehabilitation projects. In her time at Richaven, Anna has worked on building condition assessments, historic property inventories, documenting existing conditions, creating treatment schedules, developing rehabilitation drawing sets, and writing specifications related to historic material divisions.

In addition, Anna currently serves as the Emerging Professionals Director on the Board for the Association of Preservation Technology Northwest Chapter. Relevant Projects include:
